Standing atop a Mountain

Picture
Standing atop a mountain,
Looking out across a moonlit sky,
I see a star.

Not just any star,
But ... well let me explain

As I stare out across the universe,
A thing I often do,
When the sun no longer rules the sky
Awe befalls me.

Suddenly, I'm overcome,
With wisdom and wonder,
And I ponder the notion,
Is every star a soul in Heaven,
As I have oft heard said?

Or is it myth,
Like moon-pale ghosts?

Meeting to many spirits in my life,
I pondered on.

I lost a grandmother a few years ago.
Every one said she was a wonderful human being
Knowing my grandpa,
I bet she was.
She was a nurse,
A kind and spunky lady

I wonder if those folks in heaven
The ones who served as guiding lights
On life's dark voyage,
Do they live out eternity
As lanterns in the sky,
The navigational guides of ages past,
The wonderment of young lovers?

If you're out there grandma,
Good Night.
